Sri Chinmoy Centre 2 Mile Race - Banja Luka, Bosnia - November 2017

A few days after my back to back "races" in Sofia and Skopje I was invited to a weekly 2 miler again, this time in the Bosnian city of Banja Luka. This was to be a 3-lapper, perfectly flat, in the city park.

In lap 1 I was chasing Baridhi, managing to ease past him as we came towards the home straight for the first time with roughly a third of the race gone. Then it was a case of staying ahead, but without pushing too hard on my niggly right heel - a really tough balancing act! I pushed harder than the previous week but the soreness was minimal. Despite the effort I wasn't getting any clear blue water open up between myself and Baridhi who was still right behind me - or Jwalanta who was right behind him - I was expecting them to ease back past me at any moment. It was a procession like that for lap 2, just keeping my nose in front, and then I finally warmed up enough to pull away in the final circuit.

At the end I finished well clear in a time of 12.55 which cheered & encouraged me a lot - not flat out, just full on with the doubled-up breathing in the last third. Somehow I managed to finish 3rd out of the massive field (see photo - there were hundreds of us - not). Thanks Banja Luka :)
