MYNYDD TROED
Llangorse is a little village with a beautiful little lake and easy access to lots of great mountains - unlike the Lake District, you will often find it almost deserted as I did on this cold February day with clear skies but a forecast of heavy snow. From Llangorse a single track road brings you to a pass between Mynydd Llangorse and Mynydd Troed - the latter is obviously less frequented but shows lovely mountain form from this aspect, and a classic steep ascent to a well defined summit. I was up and back in 23 minutes - if there was room for more than two cars in the layby this would make a great venue for a classic AS fell race. Mynydd Troed is a rare "standalone" peak in an area dominated by lengthy ridges - and views from the top are superb. On this occasion, all I could view from the top was snow clouds rolling in fast, so I didn't hang around. I ran paused at the car for a drink before heading straight off up the other side of the road on a "motorway" of a footpath up Mynydd Llangorse.
MYNYDD LLANGORSE
The summit was just getting covered by the snowclouds so I grabbed a shot of this mountain before I ran up. The crags visible from the road are the first target, and beyond these a long broad ridge includes the summit - though as with many peaks in this area its hard to be sure when you've found it. I kept running until I was descending again and therefore satisfied that I'd been to the highest point. As I returned the snow was coming in quite strongly, but I was well kitted out with Helly Hansen balaclava etc and pretty much weatherproof. This is obviously a very popular walker's destination, as the paths in the picture show. I'm sure the views are great, looking down over Llangorse lake, but today there was only cloud and silence.
