HIRFYNYDD
This wooded ridge is the route of a Roman road, and doesn't look so tall from the village of Seven Sisters where I parked. As I jogged up the forestry track covered in hard-packed snow (a superb surface to run on - soft but flat) the ridge seemed to grow - I arrived at the base and could see it would be quite a climb, especially after earlier exertions that morning on Fan Fawr. Fortunately, the forestry track zig-zags at an even gradient right to the top where I joined the track that was once a stone-built roadway. Once on the ridge, its a short run to the Trig point that marks the summit.
Thats me leaning on the trig with a backdrop of snow covered Black Mountain. For someone who works in a Running Shop I'm sorry to say I'm committing the faux pas of wearing a decade-old pertex jacket in truly awful colours - luckily there are no fashion police on the mountains.
This was a lovely run - a challenging but gradual ascent, snow covered tracks, ice covered pools, a hillside covered by pines, and a summit that was easy to find (contrary to what you'd expect from the map).
